Male King Quail at Singapore Botanic Garden
The King Quail has recently attracted the attention of many photographers and wildlife lovers, and I’m one of them. During a quiet evening stroll at Singapore Botanic Gardens, I was thrilled to encounter this male King Quail (Excalfactoria chinensis) — also known as the Blue-breasted Quail. This small, ground-dwelling bird stood out with its rich blue breast, chestnut flanks, and striking black-and-white facial markings.
The King Quail is considered an uncommon resident in Singapore. Due to its elusive nature and preference for dense ground cover, it's rarely seen in open areas, making this encounter a truly special one. Capturing the bird in different moments — walking, resting, and calling — offered a glimpse into its shy behavior.
